I may not agree with your view of the tuition increase and student strike, but, I have not threatened to beat you up, called you stupid, said you were a hippy, told you to jump off a bridge, belittled your career prospects, called you a baby, told you to shut up, told you to go die, overgeneralized your actions, labelled you or simplified your political views so that your cause seems unimportant.
People have different opinions, but didn’t we all learn that name calling was futile? I have also not heard any convincing arguments for stereotyping people.
Normally, I try to see good in everyone and consider different views of a situation even if I know I am very unlikely to change my mind. I find it very hard to do so when so many people have been indirectly/directly vilifying and criticizing me for believing in something.
Policeman shooting point blank on a protester with an “irritating gas” projectile. These kind are supposed to be shot at ~20 feet above the head.
There are two sides the every story, but the media tends to portray the side where the police simply defend themselves in mature, standardized and rational ways. I am sure there are violent individuals on the protesting side of the conflict, but they are not salaried public servants.
I feel like redirecting many of my peers complaining about the inconvenience of protests and the good reasons for raising tuition to Noam Chomsky. Come on, he’s Noam Chomsky!
“High tuition is not an economic necessity, as easy to show, but a dept trap is a good technique of indoctrination and control. And resisting this makes good sense.” Noam Chomsky
Chomsky about students striking in Québec against tuition hike.
